Dinner Friday 20 April - Matar Paneer
Matar Paneer
100g petit pois
1 tablespoon sunflower oil
1 onion, about 135g
2 fat, vine tomatoes, about 300g
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 teaspoon coriander
1 teaspoon turmeric
2 cloves garlic
1 teaspoon sugar
12 ounces water
1 pack (8 ounces) ready made paneer for home made equivalent
Chop the onions finely. Peel, deseed and chop the tomatoes.
Add the oil to a heavy frying pan. Add the onions and cook until browned. Add the tomatoes and cook until they have been reduced to a pulp, about 10 mins. Now add the garlic and all the spices, seasonings and sugar. Add 1/2 the water, cover and cook over low heat for about 10 mins. Add the rest of the water and the peas. Cover and cook for a further 10 mins. Then add the paneer, cut into small cubes. Cover and cook for a further 5 minutes. The paneer should absorb most of the liquid in the pan, leaving a fairly dry curry. Serve with rice or paratha.

I had never noticed ready made paneer before, so I popped this the basket without really looking at it. Turns out, it is incredibly rich compared the the paneer I make myself. Next time, I will know!
